River Observation

Our classes took a walk to Otter Creek. We took a clipboard and paper with us so that we could draw pictures of what we saw and write down any observations or wonder statements. We noticed that there were trees that fell down. We also saw trash in the water. We wondered how it got there. We also saw river banks that looked like they had changed. We wondered if Tropical Storm did that. We looked for signs or river engineering like a berm, channelization, dams, or rerouting. We think the river may have rerouted. We didn't see any dams. It was fun going outside to look at the river.

Taking notes!

  1. Our Earth Science class is very excited to work with you on your science project this month. Great observations from your walk to Otter Creek. Did you notice what most of the trash was made of (paper, plastic, metal, etc.)? I am very interested to see what differences you notice between Otter Creek and Moon Brook (a smaller tributary located behind the high school).
